‘Real’s lead good, not definitive’

Philippe Montanier has reflected that whilst Real Sociedad hold a good lead in the race for the Champions League, it is not yet decided.

La Real defeated main Champions League qualification rival Valencia 4-2 on Sunday evening to open up a five-point lead to them and Malaga in the race for fourth place.

“It is a good lead but it is not definitive. It’s a great result against one of the big teams in the League,” Montanier commented post-match.

“I do not know if this is the best night at Anoeta, because we have had a good season and there was the victory over Barcelona, and that in the derby, but it really has been an important win.

“The players have fought against a great rival with the support of the fans. It was a very nice match for the people of Real.

“We are now in the final sprint. The five point lead is a nice bonus, but it is not definitive. We have to keep the same attitude and concentration.

“We will enjoy the next two days off, but afterwards we will continue to give the same work and attitude.”
