Barcelona have confirmed today that the first friendly planned as part of a pre-season tour of Asia has been cancelled.
Barca confirmed earlier this year that they had organised with promoters in the Far East to take part in an August trio of fixtures in the region.
However, where details of August 7’s friendly with the Thai national team were confirmed this week alongside the already planned August 10 date in Kuala Lumpur against a Malaysian XI, August 4’s envisioned fixture in Shanghai has been called off.
“The friendly planned for Shanghai on August 4 will not take place. The Club, together with the promoter, has decided not to go ahead with the game after coming to the conclusion that it could not be played in perfect conditions,” confirmed a statement released today on Barca’s official website.
“FC Barcelona hopes to arrange another match in China in the future in order to maintain contact with our Chinese fans, which remains a priority for the Club.”
