Diego Simeone insists that his Atletico Madrid team selection for Sevilla will not be affected by the prospect of facing Real Madrid the following week.
Atleti head into this weekend with Diego Costa and Koke Resurreccion both one booking away from picking up an automatic one-game ban.
If they were to be booked in Week 32’s trip to Los Nervionenses, they would be ruled out of Week 33’s derby at home to Madrid.
Even with this risk, though, Simeone has insisted that he will not alter his plans, out of respect for Sevilla.
“I always feel it is a lack of respect to the opponent to say that one game is more important than another and therefore I always look at the current game and that’s Sevilla,” the Argentine told reporters this week.
“How do I know that Costa won’t wake up with the flu on Saturday and be unable to play like, as it happened to Filipe?
“We look at the game coming up and will try to do all that we can to win it.”
El Cholo also insisted that he is not expecting the same sort of game as occurred when the two played out a 2-2 draw in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final earlier this term.
“All games are not equal. The Cup match happened and can not be repeated because there is no final at the end of it just these three points.
“Sevilla has a squad with technical quality, they should be higher in the League. They are very powerful from midfield forward with Reyes, Navas, Rakitic, Negredo, Kondogbia.
“They are a tough opponent, ready and eager.”
Simeone is full of respect for Sevilla, a team he spent two years at as a player.
“The atmosphere in Seville is fantastic. Whenever we play there, and in my time as a player, the atmosphere was amazing whoever they’re playing against.
“Sevilla are one of the teams that created more chances on goal per game because they have great players in attack.
“Perotti is growing in to it, Navas is still dominant. Negredo is a decisive player in the area and they have Rakitic who arrive well.
“Medel [who is suspended this weekend and thus would have time for a little flutter on Party Bingo] has presence, in terms of intensity. I imagine that Maduro or Rakitic or Perotti will play, they are all major players so I'm not surprised they've have a great record at home.”
