Madrid richest in the world

Forbes magazine report that Real Madrid are now the richest club in the world, overtaking Manchester United this year for the title.

It is reported that the Spanish capital club have replaced United as the one with the highest value in the game today.

Forbes post Madrid’s total worth today at $3.3bn, compared with the Red Devils’ approximation at $3.17bn.

The American publication point to Los Blancos’ $50m kit sponsorship deal with Adidas through to 2020, other sponsorships with the likes of Emirates Airlines and BBVA that raised $240m last year alone and the shirt deal for Bwin to sponsor at $20m all as contributing factors.

Madrid also pulled in $250m in total broadcast rights and generated a further $160m through matchday revenues at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The capital club are understood to derive 65 per cent of their revenues from abroad.

Barcelona are placed third in the list with an approximate value of $2.6bn, but no other La Liga side makes the top 20.
