Garay back to Madrid?

Speculation in Portugal is that Real Madrid are prepared to bring back Ezequiel Garay from Benfica for next season.

The centre-back spent two years on the books at Madrid between 2009 and 2011, after a year on loan back at Racing Santander, but struggled to assert himself in the team.

Sold on to Benfica in July 2011 for €5.5m, Los Blancos are understood to hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause on the player and are thought in effect able to repurchase him for €10m, half of his €20m buyout clause.

Garay, who was recently linked with a €20m move to Manchester United, has seen his profile rise at Benfica and the 26-year-old has become a regular starter at international level for Argentina too.

For his recent form, O Jogo speculate today that Madrid are considering bringing him back to the capital as competition for Pepe, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

Ricardo Carvalho and Raul Albiol are seen as likely to depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
