Mourinho unhappy with Chelsea offer

Jose Mourinho’s reported about-turn to perhaps stay at Real Madrid for next year apparently hinges on an unsatisfactory offer from Chelsea.

The Portuguese has been increasingly linked with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer, following on from continued speculation that this is his last season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, reports in England suggested over the weekend that the 50-year-old is reconsidering his apparent agreement with Madrid President Florentino Perez to leave and that he would be prepared to stay for a fourth year at Los Merengues.

El Pais suggest that this centres on recent negotiations with Chelsea proving difficult, with the Portuguese described as unhappy with the deal put to him.

Specifically, one requirement for Mourinho to return to the London club is full control of sporting matters, and negotiations have shown that owner Roman Abramovich will not offer this.

Abramovich and Mourinho parted ways at Chelsea in 2007 over a similar issue, before shortly resolving their friendship, if not their working relationship.

At the same time though, talks with Perez at the end of the season are reportedly due to focus on a similar issue, with the President understood to be keen for Mourinho to relinquish some of his power in transfer dealings, in light of unsuccessful cases such as Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales and Nuri Sahin.
