‘Madrid won’t be afraid’

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke does not believe that Borussia Dortmund hold a psychological edge over Real Madrid.

The Germans will face Jose Mourinho’s side for a second time in the Champions League, after today’s semi-final draw paired the two Group D opponents together again.

However, despite Dortmund winning at home against Madrid in that group stage and drawing at the Santiago Bernabeu, Watzke sees no advantage for the side that beat Malaga in the quarter-finals.

“I don’t think Madrid will be afraid because of what happened in the group stage,” the general manager told UEFA’s official website in reaction to today’s draw.

“They will respect us, just like we will respect them.

“We are happy with this draw, not because we think it’s an easy one, but because the Champions League is an international competition and we wanted an international game rather than a national tie against Bayern.”
