‘Casillas has always trained poorly’

Arrigo Sacchi has suggested that ‘Iker Casillas has always trained poorly’, so Jose Mourinho is right to leave him out of the Real Madrid team.

The debate over Casillas’ place in Madrid’s starting XI is set returned to the fore, with the Spain No 1 now back to full training after a two-month injury lay-off.

For former Madrid director of football Sacchi, though, Mourinho’s stance in suggesting that Diego Lopez is his current No 1 at the Santiago Bernabeu is justified.

“Iker Casillas has always trained poorly. Mourinho is right to leave him out,” Sacchi commented to El Confidencial today.

“It’s normal to play Diego Lopez because he offers the prospect of truly safe player.”
