Xabi Alonso reflected that Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Galatasaray was the result that they had hoped for on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain saw Madrid run out comfortable winners in the first leg of this Champions League quarter-final.
“It’s the result that we wanted,” reflected Alonso post-match.
“We scored and we did not concede. Both Benzema and Higuain have scored and this is great news.
“In football a lot can happen, there are 90 minutes still to play and we must continue with this intensity and competitive pressure.
“This year we want very much to win the Champions League. We are making progress but there are still a few games to go.”
