No Casillas for Zaragoza

Real Madrid assistant Coach Aitor Karanka has confirmed that Iker Casillas will not be called up for the weekend game against Real Zaragoza.

The goalkeeper was thought to be on track for inclusion in the matchday squad for Saturday’s trip, but Karanka confirmed in today’s Press conference that he remains not fully match fit.

“He is not at a competitive level and he will not be called up, but it is true that he is training at 100 per cent and that is good for everyone,” Karanka told reporters today.

“When he is 100 per cent ready to play competitively then he will be called up.

“In Iker’s case, as he is a goalkeeper, it is more specific.”

Casillas has spent two months on the sidelines recovering from surgery on a fractured hand sustained in late January.

Jose Mourinho has called up 21 players for Saturday’s game against struggling Zaragoza.

Real Madrid squad to face Zaragoza: Diego Lopez, Adan, Jesus, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao, Carvalho, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Albiol, Khedira, Kaka, Ozil, Alonso, Essien, Modric, Callejon, Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuain
