Pique ‘realised’ about spying

Gerard Pique has revealed that he suspected that Barcelona had spied on him, as it has been alleged recently.

Reports in February suggested that under Joan Laporta and Ferran Soriano’s run as President and Vice-President at the Camp Nou, the club employed a detective agency to follow other directors and also a number of footballers, including Pique.

“The truth is that in 2010 I realised that something was happening, so now that the news has come out it did not surprise me at all,” the defender told Terra in an interview today.

“I knew something was up. It is very ugly, but it’s water under the bridge, now there are other people leading the club.

“What awaits us in the next two months is too beautiful to waste time on this.”

The defender was asked of the prospect of former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic having his European suspension cut, making him available for the first leg of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League quarter-final with Barca.

“I prefer that Zlatan plays.”

The subject of European football also saw Pique reflect back to last year’s defeat to Chelsea, during Pep Guardiola’s final season at the club as Coach.

“We always think that if maybe we had gotten through the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea then we would have convinced him to stay on for another year. We’ll never know.”
