Ankle injury for Diego Costa

Diego Costa’s chances of making his international debut next week are in doubt after an injury picked up on Sunday for Atletico Madrid.

The Brazilian has been called up for the first time to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad for friendly internationals against Italy in Geneva and Russia in London.

However, the 24-year-old is set for assessment from national team doctors this week after sustaining a sprained ankle in League action over the weekend.

Away to Osasuna, in a 2-0 result decided by his two goals, Costa was injured in making a challenge for the ball midway through the second half.

Forced off, it is reported that he has suffered a grade I-II sprain of his left ankle, which will now reportedly be assessed by Brazil’s team, before a decision is made on his availability for Thursday’s match.
