‘Villa, Messi great together’

Jordi Roura was left enthused in seeing David Villa and Lionel Messi both score in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Villa opened the scoring in Sunday evening’s encounter, before Messi made it 18 League games in a row finding the net, with a second-half double, before Raul Tamudo’s consolation for the visitors.

Post-match, Roura was asked of his feelings in seeing both players score, despite rumours that they do not get along.

“This is something I have heard many times and it has always seemed absurd to me,” the assistant Coach commented.

“There has never been a motive to say this and the relationship now is the same as it was a few months ago, that is to say it is very good.

“They have good chemistry together. We don't need to say anything about Messi, but Villa scores goals, goes in behind and moves very well into space.

“They complement each other and we are very happy that they understand each other so well.

“Every game is its own story and this week we have seen that Villa was fundamental for us. There are no doubts about his importance.

“Villa has always been important and he’s helped us a lot these past couple of weeks. The most important thing is that Villa is doing well.

“It’s a great joy for us to see him score because he brings a lot to the team.

“Life is a lot easier when you have Leo Messi. You have to enjoy it on a daily basis when you have the best player in the world on your team.

Roura focused on the game as well.

“Tonight’s match was great, especially after the fatigue from the Milan game … the fans got to watch an entertaining game.

“Our goals were scored from counterattacks, that’s not very normal when we play at home.

“We are in a good position to win La Liga, but we need to take this one step at a time and not rush things.”
