Aspas hopes to dent Depor

Iago Aspas has made clear his and his Celta Vigo teammates’ ambition is to severely hurt local rivals Deportivo’s hopes of survival this Friday.

Celta travel across to Riazor in Week 28’s local derby that is also between 19th and 20th in the Division.

Even so, it is the game’s hosts who are in the greater peril, already nine points adrift of safety and six behind Celta.

It’s a situation that Aspas hopes his side can worsen with a win.

“We hope to beat them, to choke them a little. If we win, we will leave A Coruna with both feet in La Segunda,” commented the striker to reporters this week.

“Depor are yet to be relegated, though. Admittedly it is very difficult to save them, but hope is the last thing to go.

“I am sure they will fight to the end. Already I am looking forward to the derby. The truth is that I have never scored at Deportivo and I have not been able to play a great game against them either.”
