Marcelo unaffected by criticism

Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has reaffirmed the club’s newfound belief and also commented on the criticism he has received recently.

The Brazilian has struggled for regular playing time since returning from a long injury lay-off, rumoured to be for failing to fully regain his fitness.

However, in playing a part in Los Blancos’ Sunday evening 2-1 League win at Celta Vigo, Marcelo made clear the extra scrutiny he has been under hasn’t changed him.

“When they talk well about me, I cannot let it go to my head, just as the criticism doesn’t affect me,” he told reporters post-match.

“I try to keep a balance and work to improve. Personally, nothing that comes out in the Press affects me.

“I feel good, I can improve but I feel good. I have worked from the beginning of my recovery in order to return to top form as soon as possible and to help the team.

“Football is like that, one day you’re up, one day you’re down, but things work out when you work at it.

“I’m not in a hurry – my goal is to be well in order to help the team and the national team and I’m going to work to get into top form quickly.”

Madrid continued a recent turnaround in form with another win this weekend.

“Today we were able to win with a lot of work. From the beginning it was a hard game, but we struggled and fought.

“We did very well and things worked out. We have improved, it’s true, we are in a winning streak and we want to keep it up until the end of the season.”
