Diego Lopez: Night to remember

Diego Lopez conceded that Real Madrid were struggling against Manchester United, but that they ended up as deserved winners.

Goals from Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the tie in the visitors’ favour, for a 2-1 win at Old Trafford to conclude a 3-2 Last 16 scoreline in the Spaniards’ favour.

“It is a night to remember for all. We have won against a great team,” commented Lopez, who during the game was responsible for more than one key save.

“We are very good and we have shown that we can have the chance to win the Champions League.

“I felt very good. I’ve been fortunate. At the end we tightened a lot. We knew we were going to score the goals in the end.

“We did the job despite not playing a great game. We are deserved winners.”

The game’s major talking point has been Luis Nani’s red card for United, awarded just before Madrid’s two goals.

“They had the game in their favour too. We did not know how to get there, the red card has affected the game greatly. We had to score two goals and we succeeded.”

Madrid’s win over United followed up consecutive Cup and League victories over Barcelona.

“We have one week to frame and remember. We have managed three wins against two great teams, but we have to keep pushing because there is much left.

“This is very a good moment, but there are two or three more to go.”
