Diego Simeone is expected to put pen to paper on a new four-year contract with Atletico Madrid this week.
The Argentine took over at the Vicente Calderon in December 2011 and has so far taken the team to a Europa League title, UEFA Super Cup win and this season’s Copa del Rey Final.
El Cholo has been reported on and off during the last few weeks as in negotiations with the club over a proposed renewal, with his current deal expiring this summer.
Reports in mid-February revealed that Atleti had agreed to a long-term commitment of four years to the Argentine and that it would be signed and announced following on from the team’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Sevilla.
Simeone’s sister and agent Natalia is now reported as in Madrid, finalising the technical aspects to the new contract this week, ahead of the Coach putting pen to paper.
The agreement will also extend to Simeone’s assistant German Burgos and Coaches Pablo Vercellone and German Ortega.
