Copa Final date to be decided

The Spanish Football Federation and television broadcasters TVE will meet this week to determine the date for the Copa del Rey Final.

The game, now confirmed as a Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid after they won through in their respective semi-finals this week, is currently scheduled for Saturday May 18.

However, in clashing with the Eurovision Song Contest, broadcasters TVE have requested that the game be moved to the Friday beforehand.

However, the RFEF are understood to be pushing to have the game played on the Sunday evening. Week 36’s eight fixtures not involving Madrid and Atleti would then be played at times around the final, to avoid a clash, with Friday and Saturday open.

Madrid’s home League match with Malaga and Atleti’s trip to Celta Vigo, which are scheduled in Week 36, are set to be rearranged for Wednesday May 8, in the midweek between Weeks 34 and 35.

A location for the final also needs to be set.
