Soriano accused of spying

Former Barcelona Vice-President Ferran Soriano is facing allegations of spying on employees during his time at the Camp Nou.

Now acting as CEO at Manchester City, Soriano is alleged by public prosecutors in Catalonia to have been partly responsible for a €3m email surveillance during his time at Barca.

This is alleged to have been on employees at the club, between 2005 and 2008, including four other directors suspected of working against then-President Joan Laporta.

Catalonia’s public prosecutor’s office have reported that both Soriano and Laporta are under investigation and that the case has been passed on to the regional prosecutor’s office to see if there are criminal charges to answer.

No formal investigation has been opened at this stage. Reports in Britain suggest that this story is the result of a smear campaign against Soriano and former Barca and current City sporting director Txiki Begiristain for joining the English Premier League champions.
