Celta confirm Herrera out, Resino in

Celta Vigo have confirmed that Paco Herrera has been sacked as Coach and replaced by former Granada boss Abel Resino.

Herrera was rumoured on Monday morning to have already been removed from his position after the team’s 3-1 defeat to Getafe on Saturday, with the club described as close to agreeing a deal with Resino.

A statement on the club’s official website on Monday evening has confirmed the news, with the club sat 18th in La Liga, four points adrift from safety.

“Celta have closed negotiations for Abel Resino to be Coach of the first team,” read the posting this afternoon.

“The technician replaces on the bench Paco Herrera, who the club wants to convey their appreciation for his hard work in recent seasons and the unforgettable promotion achieved last season.”

Herrera, who complained today that no-one from the club has informed him yet of this move, took Celta to promotion back to La Liga last year, after five seasons in La Segunda.

Resino arrives with top-flight experience at a number of clubs including Levante, Atletico Madrid and most recently Granada, who he managed to avoid relegation with on the last day of last season.

The 53-year-old Coach, who will be presented to the media tomorrow, will reportedly sign a deal until the end of next season.
