Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed in principle to the length and conditions of a new contract for the Coach to sign.
The tactician has so far failed to commit to extend his current deal beyond the end of its expiry this summer, but the club are reported as keen to resolve the issue by the end of February.
AS report that they are close to succeeding and have agreed in principle to a longer-term deal that El Cholo was angling for.
Talks are understood to be advanced and only the final details are now needed to be added before it can be confirmed.
Simeone has been at the club since December 2011, has won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup with the team and currently has them second in La Liga and in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
