‘Blank cheque for Neymar’

Barcelona are reportedly facing competition from Manchester City for Santos star Neymar, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan publication allege that the English Premier League outfit have initiated talks with Neymar’s agent, over a proposed transfer to Eastlands.

The Brazilian is thought to be the subject of a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona, which can be activated at any time up the end of the 2014 World Cup.

Even so, City sporting director Txiki Begiristain is reported this week as having met with one of the player’s agents Pini Zahavi for a dinner also attended by former Barca President Joan Laporta.

A number of topics were reportedly discussed, but Begiristain is believed to have expressed a clear interest in signing the youngster, with the indication that City would be willing to produce an unrivalled offer for his signature.

Neymar has most recently suggested that he could stay on at Santos beyond the expiry of his contract after the 2014 World Cup.
