Casillas keen for return

Iker Casillas has already had the cast removed from his hand and is targeting a return to action as soon as he can.

The 31-year-old is sidelined for between six and 12 weeks after requiring surgery last month on a fractured hand.

Just 11 days on from that procedure, Casillas has revealed that he has had the cast removed.

“First step to recovery. Today I have removed the cast! I am happy for this and long to be with my teammates soon!” posted the goalkeeper on Facebook yesterday.

It is understood that the ‘keeper is set for a further week of minimal tone-work in the gym, before facing a review of the injury to determine his condition to step up training.

Casillas is initially ruled out until at least mid-April and is set to miss as many as 23 games in all competitions.

He is understood to be targeting a return for the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on April 15, should Madrid find themselves still in the competition then.
