Isco aware of Spain’s competitiveness

Isco Alarcon is keen to make the most of his first call-up to the Spain squad and revealed that his mum broke the news to him.

The 20-year-old was one of the few new faces handed a call-up by Vicente del Bosque for this week’s friendly against Uruguay, hosted in Qatar.

However, the Malaga attacking midfielder is under no illusion that his fight for playing time is not yet won.

“In truth, my position is difficult to compete for, here are the best players in the world,” Isco told reporters this week.

“Gradually, if I keep doing things, I may have the opportunity to stay. I am here and will try to do well and help the team.

“We are accustomed to watching them play…they are the champions of the world and Europe. The best.

“I am fortunate to be sharing a dressing room with them and I will try to take the opportunity to be here.”

The youngster also revealed how he had found out he had received the call-up.

“I heard I was called up from my family, my mother sent me a message, it caught me a bit by surprise. But, I’m very happy. I have had all the luck and now I want the experience.”
