Javier Mascherano reflected after Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Osasuna of the complexities the game represented.
Barca went into Sunday’s game off the back of midweek Cup action against Malaga, but ran out comfortable winners in the end, thanks in part to Osasuna’s early red card for Alejandro Arribas.
“We were coming off of a difficult match against Malaga and it’s never easy to play a match like tonight’s [Sunday’s],” commented converted centre-back Mascherano afterwards.
“In the first minutes it was evident that we weren’t fresh, but as time passed the goals started to come.
“The red card? If you find yourself a man up so early in a game, it favours you to have control, but Osasuna didn’t back down and they showed that they could hurt us at any point in the match…
“Going to the break with a 3-1 made it easier to play the second half.
“The Clasico? It doesn’t matter how teams come into these matches, we’re aware that we're going up against a great Real Madrid.
“They will go all out despite the fact that they’ll be missing important players.”
