Neymar has thrown doubt on a possible move to Barcelona by admitting that he could renew his contract at Santos.
The Brazilian wunderkind has been continually linked with a move to Spain since catching the eye at domestic and international level in Brazil.
Whilst Barcelona are thought to have a pre-contract agreement in place to sign the player at any stage up to the end of his contract after the 2014 World Cup, the player has dropped a hint that that contract may well be extended.
“It is possible that I will renew my contract,” the 20-year-old told reporters this midweek.
“There is still some way off, I have more than a year-and-a-half of this contract to run, so let’s go easy, I have to sit down and talk about it.”
Neymar’s club President Luis Alvaro Ribeiro was enthused at this suggestion.
“I think he is happy here, with a great salary and I sincerely believe that we can re-sign him. We’re talking about him continuing here and that is my dream.”
