‘Normal to struggle against Atleti’

Pepe Mel has reflected that it is ‘natural’ for Real Betis to be facing a struggle in trying to eliminate Atletico Madrid from the Cup.

Betis host Atleti in the second leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final this Thursday, 2-0 from the first leg.

“We are playing against a great team, we have a two-goal disadvantage,” mused Mel to reporters today, in looking ahead to the challenge that faces his side.

“It is normal that they will not give us many opportunities. But, we’ll try with all our might. Let’s try to get it right.

“This is not victimising things, but realism. Our campaign has been exceptional and if we are eliminated then the League would still be good.”

Radamel Falcao is absent from the squad for this return fixture.

“It is good news that Falcao does not arrive…but not if the result is 0-0…”
