‘Thibauting’ amazes Courtois

Thiubaut Courtois admits to being ‘curious’ but ‘happy’ for the internet craze that he has set off – ‘Thibauting’.

Since his notable performance for Atletico Madrid against Real Betis last week [below], fans have been posting pictures of themselves mimicking the 20-year-old in full flight to save the ball.

The reaction has been termed ‘Thibauting’ and has even caught Courtois’ attention.

“Of course I have seen it. There was a photo from a fan I first saw posted a month ago, but since then I had not seen anything,” the Belgian reflected to AS today.

“Then, after the Betis game, I saw more pictures on Twitter. Then a Spanish newspaper published something on it and it has spread all over the internet.

“It’s fun and enjoyable for me to see all the photos. I like to see people having fun and to know that it means a lot to them.

“I am impressed because the photos don’t just come from Spain or Belgium either, they are also from America, Africa…

“It is nice and I am curious to see so many people imitate me. There are some who even manage to capture my expressions.

“I think it is based on a save I made during a Europa League game against Vitoria Guimaraes.

“At the time of that picture I am with my arms fully outstretched and with one of those expressions I have during games.”
