Amorebieta set contract deadline

Athletic Bilbao President Jose Urrutia has reportedly set defender Fernando Amorebieta a deadline to sign a new contract.

The 27-year-old has been in negotiations with the Basque Country club over renewing his deal since last summer, but has so far stalled on signing a new deal, reportedly in light of the club and player disagreeing over salary.

Amorebieta’s current contract expires in June 2013 and he is already free to negotiate with other interested parties over a summer Bosman move.

There is reported interested from Turkey and Russia, whilst Premier League sides Everton, Stoke City, Norwich and West Ham are all listed today by AS as also monitoring the situation.

President Urrutia is understood to have put forward a final offer of a five-year deal paying €1.8m a season and has set the Venezuelan a specific deadline to sign it or see it removed from the table.
