Andoni Zubizarreta has conceded that contract talks with Victor Valdes have yet to begin, but that they will and he hopes soon.
The sporting director was quoted last week as saying talks to renew the goalkeeper’s contract beyond June 2014 had begun, only for the player’s agent to come out and comment to the contrary.
“I said that Victor Valdes did not want to leave, I did not go into further information. For a moment I will speak of the negotiations and leave you with a sentence… the negotiations will not be broadcast,” replied Zubizarreta when asked for clarification at yesterday’s game between Malaga and Barcelona.
“We have not sat down to talk at present about a renewal, but we have touched on a few more things and we chatted for general purposes.
“We will sit down when we find the right moment. I hope it is soon. Valdes we love and want him to stay. Finding a ‘keeper for this club is hard, we have Victor here.”
