Barca set new first-round record

Barcelona’s win over Malaga saw them secure a new all-time League record for points earned in the first half of a season.

Tito Vilanova’s side ran out 3-1 winners at La Rosaleda to make it a total of 18 wins and one draw from the 19 meetings against each other side in La Liga.

Taking the team to 55 points, 11 clear of nearest rivals Atletico Madrid and 18 clear of Real Madrid, it has set a new record for points accrued in the first half to a Spanish League season.

It breaks their own record of 52 points previously held during Pep Guardiola’s reign, in the 2010-11 campaign.
