Rosenborg have announced the signing of Villarreal-owned forward Nicki Bille Nielsen, as he departs Rayo Vallecano earlier than expected.

The Danish Under-21 star was halfway through a 12-month loan spell at Vallecas, but has ended that prematurely to return to Norwegian football on a four-year contract.

Nielsen made nine appearances for Paco Jemez’ Rayo this season, but struggled to make an impact and did not score during his time in the team.

Rosenborg have announced his capture from parent club Villarreal, already picturing the 24-year-old on their official website in the team’s shirt.

“I have a good feeling about this change, I am now a very happy man,” he is quoted as saying about the news.
