Deportivo have hit out at the Hacienda [tax office] for being inflexible in renegotiating its debt, pointing to double standards with Osasuna.
The Galicians have had a majority of their assets for the season seized by the Hacienda, as they look to recoup money owed to them by Augusto Cesar Lendoiro’s board.
Lendoiro has told reporters on more than one occasion of the tax office’s ‘inflexibility’ in renegotiating the sum that the club owe, although he has been criticised by local media as having failed for the past three years to make public the correct account information.
The club, who are said to owe as much as €70m to the tax authorities, have been given a period of four months to renegotiate other debt they owe. Other clubs have reportedly managed to reach an agreement to defer on taxes paid, if other creditors have been convinced beforehand to also defer on calling in their debts.
Depor have so far been unsuccessful in this, but this weekend have picked up on a report in La Opinion A Coruna, that suggested that Osasuna have been able to renegotiate their €29m tax bill to a €40m repayment structure set over the next decade.
Deportivo posted a statement on their official website linking to this article, writing in conclusion of Lendoiro’s insistence for ‘the principles of justice and equality’. The statement listed Depor as ‘doomed to fail to reach an agreement with the tax office’, who have been ‘inflexible with the club when renegotiating its debt’.
