Jemez: I don’t like Mondays

Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez hit out at the scheduling of his side’s fixtures after the 2-0 loss at home to Real Zaragoza.

The Franjirojjos suffered their third defeat in the last four matches at the Campo de Vallecas last night, sunk by goals scored by Franco Zuculini and Apono.

It was also the third time in the last four that Rayo had played on a Friday or Monday, something that Jemez is displeased by, to say the least.

“The team has no excuse, but to play on Mondays is killing us because we need people to be at the stadium, it is one of our weapons,” stormed the former Deportivo La Coruna defender.

“I should thank the fans for the effort they have made to come here today. I think they know what times are bad for us and that’s why they give us so many Mondays. We’re small and humble, they think we’re idiots but we’re not. It seems always up to us, the silly neighbourhood.”

Despite the result Jemez was content with his team’s performance and optimistic about the season ahead.

“I don’t think there was much difference between them and us. The team competed well but were not quite right in front of goal.

“Despite the defeat our situation is very good. We are not in a problematic situation and we continue to work to keep improving. We have to have more balance between goals scored and conceded.”
