Celta ‘won’t skimp’ on keeping Aspas

Celta Vigo President Carlos Mourino has reassured the clubs fans that striker Iago Aspas is going nowhere soon.

As was suggested on Friday , Mourino appeared in front of the media today to clarify the Galician club’s stance on Aspas, the on-form forward who has been linked with Valencia amongst others.

“It’s true that we have received many offers for Iago, but we have rejected them and will continue to reject them because he is a very important player for us,” stated the patron.

“We’re not going to skimp on our efforts to keep him here.”

The 25-year-old does have a €10m buyout clause in his contract however.

“If someone pays his clause and he wants to go, we are unable to hold on to him,” Mourino confessed. “Hopefully that does not happen because we want Iago to be here at Celta for many more years.

“The fans and everyone else can have complete confidence that if no one comes to pay the clause, Celta will not be separated from Iago Aspas.”
