Madrid seal resounding win

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and two from Jose Maria Callejon gave Real Madrid a 4-1 win over Ajax.

With qualification already secure, Jose Mourinho named an experimental line-up for the visit of the Dutch champions.

Youth and experience mixed against Frank De Boer's men, but despite a number of fringe players being given their chance, they started in a pedestrian manner.

It didn't take them long though to start asserting their dominance on the match, and went close on a number of occasions early on.

First Karim Benzema had a goal disallowed for offside, and almost immediately after that Fabio Coentrao hit the post with a rasping effort.

But soon after there was an opening goal. Benzema squared the ball to Ronaldo on 13 minutes, and the Portugal international lashed home first time.

Los Blancos continued to monopolise the ball and made all that possession count midway through the half. A superb ball from Luka Modric found Callejon, and the young forward finished expertly in a one-on-one.

The home team were in complete control, and it wasn’t until the 40th minute that Antonio Adan was forced to make a save, as Viktor Fischer’s weak shot dribbled at goal.

After the break, it really was more of the same, as within four minutes Los Merengues had made it three.

Kaka received the ball 25 yards from goal, glided towards the edge of the box and then curled a delightful shot into the back of the net.

Slowly however, the Eredivisie side started to get into the game. Fischer had an effort that skimmed the post, but just moments later they pulled one back.

A cross from Lasse Schone wasn’t dealt with by Adan, and Derk Boerrigter was there to knock in the rebound.

The away team rallied, looking for a way back, but they were dealt a final blow with just a few minutes remaining, as an Alvaro Morata cross found Callejon, who headed in.
