Rafael Benitez’ former assistant Coach at Liverpool and Inter, Mauricio Pellegrino, has backed the new Chelsea boss to succeed at Stamford Bridge.
Current Valencia Coach Pellegrino played under Benitez at Mestalla and later joined his backroom staff at Anfield, before following him also to Italy with Inter briefly.
With Benitez announced yesterday as the interim manager at Chelsea, Pellegrino has sent him a message of goodwill.
“Chelsea are a great club for someone like Rafa, who knows very well the Premier League,” he told EFE today.
“Of course I wish him all the luck in the world.”
Pellegrino also told reporters today of his ‘excitement’ in seeing Benitez at the current Champions League holders and reflected that Benitez had been ‘eager’ to return to management, after almost two years out.
