Feghouli’s contract stalemate

Sofiane Feghouli has reached an impasse with Valencia over talks of renewing his contract at the Mestalla.

The French-born Algerian international midfielder has caught attention this season with his performances and has become a regular starter at the club, reportedly ahead of the coaching staff’s expectations.

However, talks to improve the player’s salary have reportedly stalled, with the 22-year-old understood to have already rejected two offers from the club.

Los Che are described as keen to ‘significantly improve’ the player’s €800,000 salary and tag an extra two years on to his current contract, which expires in June 2014.

Despite links in recent weeks to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, the player has responded recently to questions of his future by saying he intends to stay at the Mestalla outfit. This is also in spite of the club’s refusal so far to comment on the situation themselves.

Some sections of the Spanish media speculate that the player is pushing for a salary to match that of high earner Roberto Soldado, who is believed to pull in around €2m a season net, which is about €800,000 a year more than the €1.2m amount few others at the club exceed in earnings.
