Sevilla claim five-star derby win

Goals from Juan Antonio Reyes, Federico Fazio and Ivan Rakitic gave Sevilla a 5-1 derby win over Real Betis.

Local pride was at stake as Michel Gonzalez's side played host to the high-flying Verdiblancos, and it was the home team who got off to the best possible start. Reyes fired in after only 14 seconds to give the Palanganas the advantage.

And it got even better just four minutes later as Fazio headed home an Rakitic free-kick to double the lead.

The Rojiblancos were in complete control, dominating the ball and creating numerous chances. Jesus Navas could have added a third midway through the half, but Reyes eventually did on 33 minutes as he tapped in from close-range after hesitant Betis defending.

The hosts were in dreamland, but before the break, they were virtually in heaven as Fazio once again headed in to make it 4-0 in 44 minutes.

As if that wasn’t bad enough for Pepe Mel’s team, after the interval they were reduced to 10-men after Ruben Perez was given a second yellow for deliberate handball.

The deficit in players didn’t down hearten the visitors however, as with just a quarter of the match to go, Ruben Castro pulled one back for the Beticos.

The comeback didn’t materialise though, and in the very last minute Rakitic pounced on some poor defending and drilled in to make it 5-1.
