Garrido back in coaching

Former Villarreal boss Juan Carlos Garrido has returned to coaching after being appointed boss of Belgian side Club Brugge.

Garrido lost his job at El Madrigal in December of last year with his team dangerously close to the relegation zone, having gone out of the Champions League at the group stage without managing a single point.

Since then the 43-year-old, who had spent all his professional career with the Yellow Submarine, has been without a club but will take over Brugge until the end of the season with an option for one more year.

His appointment was confirmed by a club statement.

“Garrido is known to be a strong leader who places emphasis on the squad, commitment and mentality. He has a modern vision for the game, places great value on youth development and has a great passion for working with his players. He stands for the never-say-die attitude that this club is all about,” it read.

Garrido succeeds Georges Leekens, who was axed following a run of four consecutive League defeats, with Philippe Clement having taken over as interim Coach before suffering a 6-1 defeat to Anderlecht.
