Xavi on verge of Barca renewal

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez is on the verge of tying up a new deal with the Catalans, reports Sport.

The 32-year-old’s current agreement expires in June 2014 and the foundations for an extension have already been laid, following a meeting between his agent Ivan Corretja and Barca officials Josep Maria Bartomeu and Andoni Zubizarreta.

This would see the World and European champion sign for a further two years until 2016, effectively committing himself to La Blaugrana for the rest of his playing days.

Having made his Barca debut back in 1998 under Louis van Gaal, Xavi would thus fulfil his desire to end his career at the club he has been with since he was an 11-year-old.

Xavi has played more than 700 games for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team and his honours include three Champions Leagues, six La Liga titles, two World Club Cups, two Copa del Reys, a World Cup, two European Championships and a World Under-20 success.
