Real defend 'exemplary' players

Real Madrid have issued a statement denying accusations made against their players in the wake of their 2-1 win at Levante last night.

Los Blancos latest victory has proved to be an extremely controversial one. Cristiano Ronaldo had to be substituted after being elbowed by in the face by David Navarro and Sergio Ramos sarcastically remarked that Sergio Ballesteros should take up boxing after an alleged assault by the Granotes captain on Pepe.

Levante's Juanfran responded with claims that Pepe and his teammates had mocked him and his teammates at full time.

Statement in full:

Given the incidents at the conclusion of the match played yesterday between our team and Levante, Real Madrid CF wishes to state the following:

1) The behaviour of our players and coaching staff was exemplary during the course of a match held in extreme conditions for playing football and that our team was able to overcome with professionalism, dedication and sportsmanship.

2) At the end of the game, the attitude and behaviour of the players, coaches and members of the party was at all times correct and blameless.

3) We reject the assertions of alleged provocations on the part of our player Pepe to the home players. The Real Madrid player always had an exemplary attitude on the same line as the rest of his teammates.

4) This club will always defend the values of sportsmanship and respect that must prevail in the world of sports.
