Osasuna’s board have met to ratify Jose Luis Mendilibar’s position as Coach for at least another week.
Speculation was mounting that perhaps the 51-year-old would become the first managerial casualty of the 2012-13 season, after a home defeat to Real Valladolid this weekend left the side five points adrift of safety.
However, President Miguel Archano has confirmed to reporters that the board have met, as normal, on Monday and approved to continue working with Mendilibar.
“This week he will continue as Coach. We have full confidence in him,” Archanco told SER Pamplona. The President also confirmed that he has spoken with Mendilibar and if he was not fit to take the club forward and out of this position, then he would ‘communicate so’.
Mendilibar has been in charge at Osasuna since February 2011 and last season almost took the team to European qualification with a seventh place finish.
