Guiza nears Getafe exit

Getafe striker Dani Guiza is close to a move to Malaysian outfit Johor, according to AS.

The 32-year-old is in his second spell at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez after joining from Fenerbahce in August, 2011, yet has not been part of boss Luis Garcia Plaza’s plans this season and is still to feature.

“To be honest I don’t know a lot about Malaysian football but I’ve watched videos of some games and it seems to be very passionate, so I’d be very happy to come here and it would be a great experience for me,” the Spanish international told Malaysian media.

Guiza, who won the Pichichi award in 2008 and was a European Championship winner the same season, arrived in the Asian country on Sunday and is expected to put pen to paper this week.

“I want to help Johor not only to be the best team in Malaysia but in the whole of Asia,” he declared.

Johor’s owners have recently invested heavily in the club and are hoping to attract a number of world-class players, with their President Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim happy to be on the verge of snapping up Guiza.

“I’m filled with pride that a player of his calibre could join our project. The problem is not money, it is whether he wants to join us right away.

“Hopefully we can reach an agreement as soon as possible and show what Johor can offer.”
