Xavi gives Asturias cash to charity

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has donated his prize money from the Prince of Asturias award to a social project in his hometown.

Xavi and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas were recently chosen as this year's recipients of the award, designed to honour those who have made significant achievements in their field within Spain.

The prize saw him rake in €25,000 but he has redirected it to a project which combats child poverty in his hometown of Terrassa. The Blaugrana playmaker has been an ambassador for the project – which works with children at risk of social exclusion – since January of this year.
