‘I can’t score in just 10 mins’

Getafe striker Adrian Colunga believes he is not getting a fair crack of the whip at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

The former Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon man has started just twice for Luis Garcia Plaza’s side this term and feels he deserves more opportunities to show what he can do.

“I don’t feel as if I’m a regular member of the team because it’s been shown that I am not,” the 27-year-old told a Press conference.

“I know what my role is and I try to do that to the best of my ability. I can go on in the second half or, if the boss prefers, even play on the left-wing if he puts Paco Alcacer up front.”

This season Garcia has preferred Alcacer and Alvaro Vazquez as his frontmen and, while Colunga respects the Coach’s decision, he considers the number of goals he may be expected to score is beyond reach.

“They can’t demand a certain number of goals from me if I’m only on the pitch 10 minutes,” he claimed. “Between now and December I’m not going to get six goals playing so little time.

“I have a clear conscience about my performances and I’m very self-critical. I’ve made two assists already and in football that adds up.”

Even so, Colunga does not expect his present situation to change anytime soon.

“I’m never going to play five consecutive games because the boss trusts Alvaro, and that’s okay. Hopefully, some day that will happen to me and I’ll play 35 games like Miku did last year.

“I’d like to play three successive games and then see what happens as regards continuity. I played against Barcelona and then disappeared from the team.”

If his position at the club does not change, Colunga is hoping he can engineer a move away during the January transfer market.

“I can’t carry on like this playing just 10 minutes. I’ve got respect for the Coach but any player who is on the bench is angry.

“If he isn’t there’s something wrong inside his head and he doesn’t deserve to play football,” he concluded..
