Barkero eyes progress for Levante

Jose Javier Barkero admits that a win on Thursday would put Levante in a good position to reach the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Los Granotes have three points on the board from their opening two games in the European competition and this week prepare to welcome Twente to the Ciutat de Valencia.

“If we want to progress, at home we have to be very strong and to win all three games would put us on track. Twente are the Dutch League leaders and so it will not be easy.

“Being on six points would give us a good chance to be in the next phase, but we won’t go crazy if we do not win, because the teams in our group are all very close and many results can still be produced.”

Barkero reflected that the European campaign does not hold the same pressures as the League season does.

“There is a difference between being down in the League and playing in Europe in terms of the pressure on getting three points, on having to win.

“Our team has a good dynamic and we have to use the full squad in the Europa League, we will try and get a little closer to the next phase this week.”
