De Marcos undeterred by Valencia loss

Athletic Bilbao's Oscar De Marcos is looking forward to the game against Lyon with confidence despite the 3-2 loss to Valencia.

Athletic suffered a demoralising defeat at Mestalla on Saturday, going down to ten men and conceding twice in the closing stages to lose a game they had led twice.

Now they must pick theirselves up for Thursday's visit to France to face Lyon in the Europa League, a decisive game with Los Leones' chances of remaining in the tournament at risk.

“We have people in the locker room who can be self critical, to make sure it does not happen again,” De Marcos stated to AS.

“Last year we also had that problem of losing goals in the final minutes, but Valencia was different. We were a man down and against a strong opponent.

“We have to get the three points against Lyon, they are the strongest rivals in our group. But we have won against other strong teams, and will go for the win in a game that will be hotly contested.”

Teammate Gorka Iraizoz also reflected on Saturday's events.

“Following the expulsion of Ander Herrera the team set out to defend, and ran like beasts to get to that point. It's a shame that Valencia turned it around, but that's football.”
