Marcelo in Real Madrid KO

Real Madrid have suffered a massive blow with the news that left-back Marcelo will be sidelined for the next three months.

Marcelo fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot after limping out of training with Brazil on Sunday, the 24-year-old barely able to put his foot on the floor after the session in Wroclaw, Poland, where he was preparing for Tuesday’s friendly against Japan.

After being transferred to a local clinic accompanied by national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar the worst fears were confirmed, with Real Madrid releasing a statement on the club’s official website.

“Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has suffered a broken right foot as reported by the Brazilian Football Confederation in a statement. Marcelo’s injury occurred on Sunday while taking part in training with the Brazilian team in the Polish city of Wroclaw.

“The Brazilian suffered a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, which was confirmed after he was examined at a local clinic.

“The player, who will return immediately to Madrid, will be place in the hands of the club’s medical department to verify the extent of the injury and determine the treatment to be followed by the player,” it read.
