Sevilla midfielder Piotr Trochowski will undergo an immediate operation in the United States on his injured right knee.
The Polish-born German international [pictured, left] suffered the injury in the 3-2 home defeat to Barcelona 10 days ago, when it was initially diagnosed he would be out for a minimum of two weeks.
However, subsequent tests have revealed it is more serious than at first thought after the player was reviewed by Doctor Muller of the German Football Federation and Sevilla’s own medical officer Juan Jose Jimenez.
It was discovered that a cartilage in the knee had become detached and the 28-year-old will travel to Denver on Wednesday.
It is there where he will be operated on at Doctor Richard Steadman’s famous clinic, which has been responsible for prolonging the careers of numerous sportsmen and sportswomen including Giuseppe Rossi and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
It will not be clear how long Trochowski could be sidelined until after the results of the operation are known.
